Spin Academy - Execute and Understand Spin (3.5-4.0)

About this event

Spin Academy: Execute and Understand Spin

A six-week class for 3.5 to 4.0 players

Spin is what separates good shots from great ones. In Spin Academy you’ll learn how spin works, how to create topspin, backspin and sidespin on purpose, and how to read and handle the spin your opponents hit. Each session combines clear explanations, focused drills and live play, so you leave able to use spin with control instead of by accident.

What you’ll work on:

Week 1, Spin 101: how paddle angle, swing path and contact create topspin, backspin and sidespin, and how to read the ball as it comes off an opponent’s paddle.

Week 2, serves and returns with spin: legal spin serves that are generated by the paddle, with no pre-spin, plus slice and topspin returns that push opponents back.

Week 3, topspin drives and drops: heavy topspin drives that dip at your opponents’ feet and topspin drops that land soft in the kitchen.

Week 4, slice and backspin: slice drives, backspin drops and chip shots that stay low and make opponents hit up.

Week 5, dinks and rolls with spin: topspin roll dinks, slice dinks, sidespin angles and roll volleys at the kitchen line.

Week 6, reading spin and live play: adjusting your paddle angle to handle incoming spin, then points that reward using and neutralizing spin.

Who it’s for: players rated 3.5 to 4.0 who have consistent fundamentals and want to add another layer to their game. Each week builds on the last, so try to make all six sessions.
