Your Covid Prevention Guide to Safe Tennis

Your Covid Prevention Guide to Safe Tennis|

While the country is gradually opening up after the Covid-19 pandemic, we are not in the clear yet. We are seeing a return in some of our favorite sports, but we still need to take the proper precautions. The CDC says that it depends on each sport and how it’s played. If you’re an avid tennis player and you’re ready to get back on the court, there are certain covid prevention strategies to ensure your safety.

Keep reading to find out how you can play safely and prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Wear a Breathable Mask

One of the best ways that you can take preventative safety measures on the court is by wearing a mask.

While playing sports with a mask on is not always ideal, you can get a breathable tennis mask that will be more comfortable for you during play. A cotton mask is more breathable and is good for absorbing sweat.

If you’re using the bathroom or walking around the facilities, always put on your mask.

Play Outside Whenever Possible

Tennis is a great sport to play outside. If it is possible, avoid indoor tennis courts and opt to play outside.

If you do practice indoors, ensure that the space is well ventilated. Additionally, you want to make sure that the staff in any gymnasium or recreation center has taken the proper precautions to sanitize the space you will be using.

A trusted center will also feature contactless check-in and other added safety precautions due to covid.

Take Advantage of the Spacing

Unlike group sports, one of the advantages of playing tennis is that there is a natural physical distance between two players. It is also a non-contact sport so there will be little physical interaction between you and the other player.

With a safety distance of six feet or more, tennis is safer than some other sports.

Limit Yourself to One Partner

Instead of switching partners frequently, try to have a consistent partner. Perhaps you can ask a fellow tennis enthusiast who you trust and you can both commit to playing only with one another for the time being.

Bring Your Own Sanitized Equipment

Another way that you can practice covid prevention strategies in your tennis game is to bring your own equipment. Many recreation centers offer equipment that is shared by all of the players. Bringing your own is a great way to avoid unnecessary contact with communal equipment.

Additionally, you will want to clean your tennis outfit after each practice.

Get Tested Regularly

Getting a regular covid test is a pragmatic way to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.

You want to get tested on a regular as part of your own physical wellness, and avoid playing if you are feeling ill.

The Bottom Line on Covid Prevention

While we’re all ready to get back to our normal lives and our favorite sports, it is important to stay vigilant and keep each other safe. Covid prevention strategies like testing, wearing a mask, using your own equipment, and playing outside can keep you safe while playing tennis.
